The quickened circulation of the blood through exercise invigorates every organ of the body. It is said to aid digestion, prevent disease, helps in the recovery of health, gives tone to the muscles, and helps skin in a healthy condition. It increases the flow of oxygen to all the organs, which promoted the cleansing of the blood by stimulating perspiration. It burns calories, strengthens the immune system, reduces stress, lower serum cholesterol, tones the nervous system, decreases muscular fatigue, and gives a sense of well being by releasing endorphins which reduce pain and gives the individual a sense of well-being. With regular exercise, the heart can pump blood with less effort, and the heart attack risk is reduced by 20%. Much of the work of pushing the blood back to the heart is done by calf muscles which squeeze the deep veins and force blood upward against gravity. That is why walking is often called the second heart.
