Swimming for Anti-aging
A Higher level of physical fitness appears to slow down mortality due to lowered rates of cardio-vascular disease. Dr. Kraus believe that aging muscles deprived of exercise, go through a progressive shortening the longer they are neglected. Scientists have found that they can actually predict how long a person may live by measuring the strength of the lungs vital capacity. They say swimming stops the deterioration of lung capacity or restores that age and disuse have taken away. Dr. Hutinger says that swimming is the closest thing to an anti-aging formula.
The body requires fresh air, and it is even more important than medicine and more important than food. Without food we can live for months, without water we can live for days, but without air we can live for a few minutes. The purpose of breathing is to supply the body's need of oxygen and to eliminate carbon dioxide from the body. The blood flows through the lungs and gives off carbon dioxide from the cell. When in physical effort the amount of carbon dioxide is increased, the amount of oxygen intake is increased through breathing. Any increase in the oxygen content of the blood will decrease the breathing movement. Besides the lungs, the skin is also a breathing organ. If all pores of the skin were closed a person would suffocate in a short time.
