Proper periods of rest are part of an intelligent system of treating disease. The work of building up the body takes place during the hours of rest. Rest invigorates and renews. Tired nerves need rest. Many have made themselves sick by too much usage of their strength, Their exhausted energies compel them to cease labor, and they are brought to bed of suffering. Rest, freedom from care, light, pure air and water, and a spare diet are all that they need to make them well". Research is hinting that regular relaxation may help avoid infections because it boosts killer cells activity.




One of the first requirement for sleep is that the nerves should not be disturbed. There should be darkness and quiet. Go to bed early; early sleep is beauty sleep. People who retire late are more fatigued than those who retire a comfortable temperature; practice a few moments of mental and physical quiet before retiring.


Don't before retiring. If one goes to sleep on an empty stomach, one can often get along with six or seven hours of sleep. With a full stomach, you would need from 8 to 9 hours. Those who sleep 9 hours have a higher mortality rate than those who sleep 7 or 8 hours. During sleep, the body is continually at work. It rebuilds its tissues and alkalinizes itself; burns up stored energy; produces poisonous wastes; and repair cells and tissues, brain workers require more sleep than others.


Researchers found out that people should do their showering at night with fairly hot water before retiring. The warmer you go to bed the longer you'll sleep. They also found out that the adult males who took hot showers before going to sleep had much better sleep than did a control group who took or cold showers upon arising the next morning. Many changes are taking place inside the body - the blood pressure falls, the temperature drops more than 1 degree from its normal afternoon high. When your awake, your body makes the transition by producing a surge of stimulation chemicals called catecholamines. This cause the heart rate to increase and the blood vessels to constrict, resulting in higher blood pressure and reduce blood flow to heart muscle. That is why the first two hours after getting up people are more likely to suffer a heart an attack or a stroke. At this time people are also most vulnerable to many other leading causes of death such as cancer, emphysema, asthma, bronchitis, and ischemic heart disease.



One rule is: Go to bed and get up every day at the same time. Never sleep late - not even on weekend.

The purpose of breathing is to supply the body's need of oxygen and to eliminate carbon dioxide from the body. The blood flows through the lungs and gives off carbon dioxide from the cell. When in physical effort the amount of carbon dioxide is increased, the amount of oxygen intake is increased through breathing. Any increase in the oxygen content of the blood will decrease the breathing movement. Besides the lungs, the skin is also a breathing organ. If all pores of the skin were closed a person would suffocate in a short time.
